Jayakerala Nirtha Kalalayam founded at Changanacherry in 1959 by Late Shri.Thripunithura Aravindaksha Menon the famous dancer of Kerala. He was the one who introduced “Ballet” (Dance Drama) in Kerala. Winner of several laurels, he won the Fellowship from Kendra Sangeetha Nataka Academy for the contribution to Keralanadanam.

Jayakerala started its flagship Ballet Troupe(Nirthakalalayam)in 1959, and lighted by Shri. Mannathu Padmanabhan.

His love for Indian classical dance and drama forms made him to establish this prestigious institution to protect and preserve the culture of India and Kerala. Since Jayakerala become a cultural icon in the state of Kerala. By the orgin of Jayakerala School of Performing Arts, Miss.Shalu Menon – the grand daughter of Shri. Aravindaksha Menon, celebrity dancer, brilliant choreographer and a teacher par excellence retain the institution a centre to promote and give training in Indian classical dances and other performing arts.

Shalu Menon the Dancer & Actor, Choreographer, a teacher par excellence is now conduct training to students and look after the curriculum in Jayakerala. Presently Jayakerala School of Performing Arts made its presence and contributions in art and culture become one of the top most training centre for Music and Dances in Central Travancore.

Established with Head office in Changanacherry, Jayakerala have its branches at Thiruvalla, Ponkunnam,Mannar, Mavelikkara(Near Prayikkara), Thengana, Mallapally, Pandalam and Chengannur.

The institution aims not just to train pupils in dance but also believes in the development of one’s personality and creativity.The students of Jayakerala have won prizes in many dance competitions, including university and inter college competitions in various dance forms and performing arts.
